Diwali Muhurat Trading is on Sunday, 8 Nov 2026, from 2:05 PM to 4:00 PM. Sunday is a settlement holiday, so a few things work differently for your money and your stocks.
In short
· Profits and sale money from Friday, 6 Nov onwards will not count in your Available Balance during the Muhurat session. Money from stocks you sell on Friday, 6 Nov shows up in your Available Balance on Monday, 9 Nov.
· Stocks you buy on Friday, 6 Nov cannot be sold on Sunday, 8 Nov.
· Add money to your wallet before the session, so you have money ready.
What is a settlement holiday?
In India, stock exchanges work with banks and depositories like NSDL and CDSL. Banks hold your money and depositories hold your shares. Sometimes the stock market is open for trading, but banks or depositories are closed for a public holiday.
On such a day, money and shares cannot be transferred, so the exchange declares a settlement holiday. Trades you make that day are valid and registered by the exchange. The only difference is that the exchange of money for shares is delayed until the next full working day.
What this means for you
1. Some money will not show up in your Available Balance
These will not be added to your Available Balance during the Muhurat session if they come from trades from Friday, 6 Nov onwards:
· Premium from options you sold
· Mark-to-market profit on F&O
· Profit from F&O intraday trades
· Profit from intraday equity trades
· Money from stocks you sell on Friday, 6 Nov. It is added to your Available Balance on Monday, 9 Nov.
For example, if you sell an option on Friday, 6 Nov and receive a premium, you cannot use that premium to buy on Sunday, 8 Nov.
2. Stocks bought on Friday, 6 Nov cannot be sold on Sunday, 8 Nov
Shares you buy on Friday, 6 Nov are not in your account yet on Sunday, 8 Nov. So you cannot sell them during the Muhurat session. They become available once they settle on Monday, 9 Nov.
What you can do
· Add money to your wallet on Saturday, 7 Nov or on Sunday, 8 Nov before 2:05 PM.
· Check your Available Balance on the morning of Sunday, 8 Nov, so there are no surprises.
· Keep in mind that profits from your trades on Friday, 6 Nov will not be in your Available Balance.
· Do not plan to sell stocks you buy on Friday, 6 Nov during the Muhurat session.
